Route changes

Salomon Ultra Pirineu courses modified due to the risk of severe thunderstorms

Given the forecast of a high risk of thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon, the Salomon Ultra Pirineu organisation has decided to activate the alternative bad-weather plan.

Main changes

Ultra

  • The alternative route will be activated.
  • Runners will follow the original route as far as the Cortals aid station (km 36). From there, they will be diverted via Coll de Pendís to the Sant Jordi refuge and will descend through Els Empedrats to Aula Natura. From there, they will climb via Coll de l’Escriga to Turbians, where there will be an aid station, before beginning the final descent to the finish line in Bagà. This modified section will combine parts of the Marató and Mitja routes.
  • The new distance will be approximately 60 km, with 3,900 m of elevation gain.

Marató

  • The race will start at 8:00 a.m., one hour earlier than originally scheduled.
  • The final section of the route will be modified to improve the flow of participants and prevent congestion with Ultra runners. From the Sant Jordi refuge (km 31), runners will descend to Coll d’Escriu and continue towards Gréixer, where there will be an aid station. From there, they will continue to the finish line in Bagà.
  • The Marató will retain a similar distance and elevation gain.

Mandatory equipment

This new plan will involve changes to the mandatory equipment for the races. Updated information is available on the official Salomon Ultra Pirineu website.

The aim of these measures is to prevent the main field of runners from being in exposed high-mountain areas during the highest-risk hours, particularly at locations such as Pas de Gosolans. The alternative route will reduce exposure to thunderstorms and allow the races to be managed more safely.

These modifications have been designed with the safety of runners, volunteers, assistance teams and all other professionals deployed along the route in mind. The organisation will continue to monitor the weather conditions in coordination with the relevant services and will communicate any updates through the official Salomon Ultra Pirineu channels.

We thank runners, teams, volunteers and spectators for their understanding and cooperation regarding this necessary decision, which will allow the races to take place with the strongest possible safety measures.
